Between several panels on email marketing and the Email Experience Council (EEC) setting up shop on the exhibit floor, email marketing was a popular topic of discussion among attendees at this year’s OMMA Conference and Expo. The 2006 edition of OMMA was all about the resurgence of the Internet – but no other medium has bounced back as much as email in the past few years. This was evident by the crowds that gathered in front of the EEC’s booth to learn how email marketing can advance their businesses. The EEC is an advocacy group for email and helps educate marketers on all the benefits of email. Several marketers walked away with new insight on email as they begin their media plans for 2007 and beyond.
Marketers also received an intimate lesson on setting up a successful email marketing campaign. Day 1 of the conference featured a panel led by some of the industry’s most respected experts – Sean O’ Neal, CMO, Datran Media; Eamon O’Neill, VP of Product Management, BlueStreak; Jean Brandolini Lamb, Director of Brand Strategy, Enterprise IG; and the moderator, Andrew Goldman, Associate Director of Email Marketing, OgilvyOne Worldwide. “A Million Little Touch Points: Why Your Email Champion Should Attend Media Plan Meetings†addressed many of the topics that are on the minds of today’s marketing professionals. About 50 marketers attended the panel to learn about setting up their lists and deploying their creative. The 45-minute session explored many topics including B2B vs. B2C lists and email’s importance in viral marketing, a popular discussion among the audience. In the end, the attendees walked away with a better understanding of email as a marketing tool and we in the industry walked away confident knowing marketers are increasingly grasping the value of email.
Events like OMMA are great ways for marketers to really learn more about all the elements involved in email marketing. If you missed this event, try and catch this year’s DMA Show in San Francisco.
